53.610 - 6 Meter Repeater
Preliminary Information
Revised November 22, 2007
The newest addition to the NVFMA family of repeaters is the new 6 meter repeater that is currently under construction by Red, K0RAJ. The NVFMA 6 meter repeater will be a split site repeater. A split site repeater is a repeater that has the receiver and transmitters located in physically separate locations. The primary reason that we are creating a split site repeater is to save the cost of a 6 meter duplexer as well as the rack mounting space that would be needed to house the needed duplexer.
The receiver will be located on top of the Massy Building in Fairfax City along with the 146.790 and 224.100 repeaters. The transmitter will be located at Tyson's Corner with the 146.910 and 447.025 repeaters. All of the Motorola radios were obtained from a local company that was replacing their VHF and UHF gear with 800 MHz trunking equipment.
The antennas are Comet GP-15 tri-band antennas, 6 meter 3 db gain, 2 meter, and 440 8.6 db gain. Two of the three bands, 6 meters and 440, will be used at each location. The 440 portion of the antennas will be used for the link between the split sites while the 6 meter portion will be used for the repeater. This also saves NVFMA from having to purchase additional link antennas and cables.
Progress of Repeater:
Dec 7, 2002: The antenna that will be located at the Massey Building in Fairfax City, has been installed. This will be the repeater receive site.
June, 2003 Receiver and link transmitter installed at the Massy Building.
December 6, 2003: Work party to install transmitter antenna and link receiver antenna.
